Goals
1.
Capitalize, Launch, and Make the Farmer’s Kitchen Self-Sustaining
The Farmer’s Kitchen will establish a permanent site
for the successful Hollywood
Farmers’ Market. It will link the local community
and local small farmers and benefit both populations through
the farm-fresh café and through economic and educational
programming. A viable and self-sustaining retail component
of the Farmer's Kitchen will provide the means to sustain
programs and ultimately increase community food security.
2.
Promote Sustainability of California Small Farmers
California’s small farmers constantly struggle with
economic hardship. In addition to current venues of farmers’
markets and farm-based CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)
programs, the Farmer’s Kitchen will create an additional
stable retail outlet and will increase the sustainability
of farmers.
3.
Job Training and Job Creation
Effective economic development programs will enable low-income
persons more opportunities for employment, raise their earning
power, and help to permanently address their food needs.
4.
Expand Nutrition Education Opportunities
Effective, culturally appropriate education through the “Good
Cooking” program will address barriers to fresh produce
consumption. Team teacher training programs will empower participants
to improve the health of their local community.
5.
Improve Access to Fresh Produce to Improve Nutrition and Reduce
Hunger
Increased access to and demand for fresh produce will enable
communities to be more self-reliant in providing for their
own food needs and address challenges to food security, nutrition,
and public health.
